Outside the Domain du Grand Malignly the Daisies were in bloom as car after car arrived carrying authorized dealers, distributors, members of the press, and friends of the Franck Muller brand, all coming to Genthod to see Franck Muller’s new horological offerings that lay within. This year, the diversity of new timepieces included no fewer than 24 new collections, plus a smoking hot timekeeping surprise that no one could have expected. More on that later.

New introductions ran the gamut from incorporating new materials & shapes into the cases, to launching new in-house movements and complications within. Color was very much en vogue in Genthod – and not just as the Viva Colores theme for the annual Gala. Monochromatic and complementary tones were proffered in soft pastels, deep hues, and bold electric blends of rich color with each vying for attention as they joined the more traditional executions within the glass vitrines.

Let’s start our exploration into the new releases with a new timepiece that combines bold colors and high complications:

Franck Muller Grand Central Tourbillon

Housed within the Cintree Curvex “CX” case and located at the center of this new skeletonized movement is a beating heart of a flying tourbillon escapement mounted within a movement held in place by four pillars suspended between curved sapphire crystals above and below. The skeletal architecture allows an unfettered view of the entire movement with the wide sapphire portholes allowing ambient light to flood the case and accentuate the exquisite finishes and vibrant colors of the mechanism within.

Designed, developed, and manufactured entirely in house at the Franck Muller Watchland Manufacture in Genthod, this brand-new tourbillon caliber features automatic winding, a centrally located one-minute flying tourbillon, and will accurately track time for up to 96 hours when fully wound.

Each movement is decorated, finished, and assembled in house by Franck Muller’s team of watchmakers and technicians and each interior component receives attention in the form of decoration including perlage on the base plate, Anglage on the bridges, springs, and winding bridge, diamond polished jewel sinks, as well as sunray, circular snailing, mirror polishing, and satin finishing applied to various other components.

Housed in the supremely comfortable Cintree Curvex CX case, the Grand Central Tourbillon is available in the more conventional rose gold & steel/silver tones, or in bolder colorways including vibrant hues of electric blue, deep purple, and emerald, green.
