A COLORFUL AND COMPLICATED TRIPLE AXIS MASTERPIECE

Housed in a 46mm by 56mm curved 18kt white gold case, the Revolution 3 movement is an amazing example of high watchmaking in and of itself. Placed within the gem set “Rainbow” coachworks, this timepiece becomes a truly dazzling wrist accessory garbed in a panoply of 12 different precious and semi-precious stones (almost 29 carats) including sapphires, rubies, amethyst, topaz, citrine & more.

Each of these 212 invisibly set gems is painstakingly selected for size, color, and brilliance to transition effortlessly from one gradient of the rainbow to the next in a lustrous expression of rich hues. Even the 18kt gold crown & buckle are bedecked with almost 2 carats of stones each.

Looking inside the polychromatic frame reveals a mesmerizing engineering achievement as you watch the uncanny triple-axis tourbillon come to life as a functional work of kinetic art. Magnified under a sapphire dome, three separate cages are nested together and rotate on different axes as they cycle in 60 second, 8 minute, and 1-hour intervals to constantly change the aspect of the balance wheel ensconced within the tri-axial system. This complex system of carriages is a technical marvel and is the result of one of the most complex creations in Haute Horology.Over the movement, two retrograde displays at 4 and 8 o’clock track and display the procession of the 8-minute and 60-second cages, adding another level of complexity and showcasing Franck Muller’s exceptional ingenuity in both form and function.

Visible from the front and back, the Revolution 3 Skeleton features open-worked and painstakingly finished bridges artfully suspended within the case allowing light to reach through and allow a deeper appreciation of one of the most exquisite mechanisms in the world of haute horology. Each of the 461 movement components is adorned with one or more of a variety of traditional watchmaking adornments including sunray, circular or satin brushed finishes, diamond or mirror polishing, circular snailing, flank polishing and the detailed and difficult to master “anglage” or hand-beveling of sharp edges.

By their very nature, tourbillon escapements demand more energy than standard movements just to achieve a typical running reserve of 40-60 hours. With three separate cages to keep in motion, the Revolution 3 multi-axis tourbillon is no exception to this rule. To solve the power problem, Franck Muller’s master watchmakers engineered systems that maximize the potential of an extra-long mainspring within the FM 20300-SMR-VS movement to yield an amazing 240 hours (10 days) of running time! The Revolution 3 was the 1st triple axis tourbillon to achieve such an amazing feat when introduced and to this day remains the only tri-axial tourbillon wristwatch with anything close to a 10 day power reserve.
